music video

lost frequencies x james arthur - questions

This music video was shot in a very organic way - we wanted to capture the ineffable qualities of being in love in a way that made it feel nostalgic: like a memory. Therefore when it came to the approach, performance & styling authenticity & relatability took top priority, but we also wanted to balance that with a bold, dreamlike aesthetic that made sense conceptually with the lyrics of the track & the visual ID that Lost Frequencies had developed.

We shot the video over 2 days in beautiful Portugal - one of my favorite places to film - & with a familiar local crew that I love working with. I have worked many times with DP David Marques - we have a similar sensibility when it comes to framing & lighting which allowed us to shoot quickly & intuitively. Although our cast was not very experienced in front of the camera, we were able to build scenes in such a way that it was more about being present with one another rather than performing a character or hitting marks.

We added in some surreal & stylised sequences that tied the more structured narrative threads together to feel like a memory. For Lost Frequencies performance we built a myriad of mirrors on the beach to represent the lyrics of the song: reflecting back on a relationship.

James Arthur was on tour in the US at the time of filming so I directed him remotely with an amazing LA based crew. We kept his setup simple - focusing on his performance & using art direction (mirrors, water & shadows) to make it cohesive & make sense with the rest of the video.
